documenta 16 Sourcebook

The Sourcebook for documenta 16 is a reflection on recent thought and artistic practices shaping the twenty-first century. The publication brings together newly commissioned texts, contributions by the curatorial ensemble, and an introduction by the Artistic Director to situate the exhibition within the urgent questions of today.

documenta 16 reflects on artistic creation as it persists in times of uncertainty. The exhibition sources methods of creativity and belonging amid intellectual, cultural, and technological instability, charting paths toward possible futures.

documenta has been held in Kassel, Germany, since 1955. The next edition, which will take place between June 12 and September 19, 2027, is curated by Artistic Director Naomi Beckwith and the artistic team of Carla Acevedo-Yates, Romi Crawford, Mayra A.
